Finding School Information About A Home You Are Considering

When you’re thinking about buying a home, one of the biggest things to consider is the quality of nearby schools. Schools can make a huge difference for families with kids. Knowing where to find reliable information about schools can help you feel confident in your decision. Here are some of the best places to look:

Local School District Education Websites

Most states and school districts have official websites packed with information. You can find:

How schools perform on tests, student enrollment numbers, special programs they offer, contact info for school staff and many other resources, these sites often have up-to-date details that are super helpful.

Here are some links to a few of the local school districts for your convenience:

Virginia Beach School District
Chesapeake School District
Norfolk School District
Suffolk School District
Newport News School District
Hampton School District

The local school districts are a great start but far from the only resource!

National School Websites

You can check GreatSchools.org which provides information for many families, with school ratings, test scores and etc. One word of caution is that sometimes their ratings do not reflect a broad spectrum of parents current experiences and checking with people locally can often provide a clearer picture as well help provide information about specific opportunities available that would apply to your kids.

Niche.com is another tool for checking out schools uses a similar method for ranking schools and shares reviews from parents, students, and teachers. It grades schools based on academics, diversity, and extracurriculars, etc. That said, the same caution applies to this website as Great Schools. When you rank schools, often there is information missing that would be truly helpful. These sites are easy to use and can be a place to start.

My Website

My website can be a great help! On this page is a link to my website. If you search for homes on my website and you look at a specific home, you can scroll down and see which schools are associated with that listing (if the listing agent included that when they loaded the listing). It is important to verify that information with me to make SURE that it is correct! Sometimes they can be incorrect or missing, so I can help you verify them for sure.

Community Groups and Forums

Joining local Facebook groups or forums can give you a feel for what parents in the area think about the schools. It’s a good way to get real-life opinions as well!

School Visits and Open Houses

Once you get into town (if you are relocating from elsewhere, you can visit the schools you’re interested in. Walk around, meet some staff, and see how things work there. A visit can tell you things that numbers and reviews can’t.

Ask Me

Real estate agents often know a lot about local schools. We help people relocate to new schools everyday, and while we might not share personal opinions, we can definitely point you to resources and information sot hat you can make your best decision. Finding the right school means doing some homework, but you have resources to help. By checking out websites and resources, talking to people, and visiting schools in person if you can, you’ll be able to pick a home and a school that’s just right for your family.
