Fun Ways To Celebrate Easter

Spring has arrived, and with it comes Easter fun for the whole family! Whether you’re in Hampton Roads or in North Carolina, you’re in luck—there are plenty of exciting and affordable ways to celebrate the season. From egg hunts to petting zoos, community festivals, and scenic picnics, many of these events are free or low-cost, making it easy to get out and enjoy the holiday without breaking the bank.

Community Easter Egg Hunts
Across the region, you’ll find a large number of local groups hosting free and paid Easter egg hunts. Here are some of the free easter egg hunts for the kids:

Hampton Roads

North Carolina Outer Banks

  • The Outer Banks has a variety of Easter activities including a LARGE Easter Egg Hunt on the beach for the kids. (There is a small cost of $7. Here are the details.)
  • They also have a Kite Festival on April 18th and 19th. Check it out!

Each of these malls are setup for festive pictures and you can bring the kids—or even the pets. The links above have the hours and links for reservations – HIGHLY Recommended.

Nature Walks and Spring Picnics
Not every Easter outing needs to be about candy. Grab a picnic blanket and enjoy the beauty of spring at places like First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, the Norfolk Botanical Garden, or Northwest River Park in Chesapeake. You can also go to Dismal Swamp State Park and Merchants Millpond in North Carolina. All of these options offer peaceful trails and picnic areas perfect for a quiet family day outdoors.

Local Library
Many local libraries offer free Easter-themed storytimes and craft sessions in the days leading up to Easter. Check your local branch’s calendar for activities—these are great for younger kids and usually don’t require registration.

Local Farm Events and Zoos
If you want to add a little hands-on fun, check out seasonal events at farms like Hunt Club Farm in Virginia Beach or Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake. Many offer egg hunts, hayrides, petting zoos, and pony rides—some for free, others for a small fee. (Check the links for details)

No Shortage of Fun—Even on a Budget
Whether you’re looking for a big celebration or just a simple way to enjoy the season with your family, Easter in our area offers something for everyone. With many free or low-cost activities available, it’s easy to make this holiday special without spending much at all.

Don’t miss the fun—and have a wonderful Easter season filled with smiles, memories, and maybe a few chocolate bunnies! 🐣🌸🐰
